The Council has successfully implemented a travel plan for its employees for several years. The 2003 to 2006 sustainable travel plan introduced a number of important and dynamic schemes and initiatives which provided employees with the opportunity to travel more sustainably. The launch of a pool cycle scheme has allowed employees to cycle whilst on Council business, reducing congestion in the borough and providing employees with an opportunity to exercise as part of their working day. Eight “Green A –Z“ maps of Stockport showing green and pleasant walking and cycling routes have been published and distributed. They offer the opportunity for employees, residents and visitors to walk around green and pleasant routes in the borough. The 2007-2010 Travel Plan builds on the success of these measures.
